Biography
Dr. Harry T. Haramis is a board-certified plastic surgeon with more than 30 years of experience in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. Certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery, he is one of a select group of surgeons holding dual board certifications. A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), Dr. Haramis brings the highest level of surgical training and ethical standards to every procedure he performs.
Education and Training
Dr. Haramis graduated summa cum laude in Zoology from Rutgers University before earning his medical degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in 1987. He completed a rigorous five-year residency in general surgery at Saint Barnabas Medical Center (now Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center) in Livingston, NJ, followed by a two-year integrated plastic surgery fellowship at Wright State University/Kettering Medical Center in Dayton, OH. This comprehensive surgical foundation – seven years of post-medical school training – gave Dr. Haramis the technical precision and anatomical knowledge that define his approach to body and breast procedures.
Body and Breast Surgery Expertise
Dr. Haramis’s clinical practice centers on the procedures that demand the highest level of plastic surgery training:
- Breast augmentation, lift, and reduction
- Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and mommy makeover
- Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) using advanced fat transfer techniques
- VASER ultrasound liposuction with and without fat transfer
- Liposuction 360 and SmartLipo
- Bariatric body contouring (arm lift, thigh lift, body lift)
- Gynecomastia (male breast reduction)
His approach to body contouring emphasizes VASER ultrasound-assisted liposuction, which allows for more precise fat removal and smoother results compared to traditional techniques. For patients seeking a Brazilian Butt Lift, Dr. Haramis uses a multi-layer fat transfer technique to maximize graft survival and create natural, proportionate contours.
Published Research
Dr. Haramis has contributed to the peer-reviewed medical literature, including:
- “Cleft Palate and Congenital Lateral Alveolar Synechia Syndrome: Case Presentation and Literature Review” – Annals of Plastic Surgery, Vol. 34, No. 4, April 1995
- “Unilateral Breast Atrophy” – Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Vol. 95, No. 5, April 1995 – documenting the only known case of acquired unilateral breast atrophy after infectious mononucleosis, with reconstruction via tissue expansion and prosthetic augmentation
Hospital Privileges and Professional Standing
Dr. Haramis maintains active surgical privileges at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, Clara Maass Medical Center, and JFK University Medical Center – all within the RWJBarnabas Health system. His membership in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS/The Aesthetic Society), and the New Jersey Society of Plastic Surgeons reflects his standing among the most accomplished plastic surgeons in the tri-state area.
A Family Tradition of Medicine
Coming from a family of physicians – both his father and uncle practiced medicine – Dr. Haramis developed a commitment to patient-first care from an early age. He spent summers accompanying them on hospital rounds and house calls, experiences that shaped his belief that exceptional surgical results begin with listening to what each patient wants to achieve.
