Overview

What is a thigh lift?

When the thighs are out of proportion, a thigh lift restores balance to the lower body. The surgeon removes fat, skin, and tissue, leaving a firmer, more youthful shape. The procedure can contour both the inner and outer thighs at once. Our team at Allure Plastic Surgery tailors every thigh lift to your frame and your goals.

What are the different types of thigh lifts?

Inner (medial) thigh lift – Here, excess fat, skin, and tissue are removed from the inner thigh area. The inner thigh skin is also tightened during the procedure to combat age-related ptosis. An incision is made, reaching from the groin backward towards the buttocks.

Outer (bilateral) thigh lift – During this procedure, the outer thighs are slimmed and reshaped. The incision is made within the groin area, extending towards the hips and lower back. A bilateral thigh lift is often performed for clients after massive weight loss to excise large amounts of excess sagging skin.

What happens during the procedure?

A thigh lift at Allure Plastic Surgery is performed at our AAAHC-accredited facility under anesthesia and takes about 1-2 hours. Incisions are placed discreetly in the groin area. The surgeon then removes excess skin, fat, and tissue to create a slimmer, more flattering thigh. Liposuction may be used alongside it to sharpen the final result.

What are the benefits of a thigh lift?

  • A slimmer, more sculpted lower body
  • A more youthful-looking physique
  • Increased wardrobe options
  • Enhanced security in one’s appearance
  • Helps remove unwanted fat and skin
  • Well-hidden scarring
  • Long-lasting results
  • Natural-looking outcome

Is It Right For You

Am I a good candidate for the thigh lift procedure?

A thigh lift might be the ideal solution for you if:

  • You are physically and emotionally healthy
  • You are free from any significant medical concerns
  • You are willing to follow your surgeon’s instructions
  • You are unhappy with the appearance of your thighs
  • Your thighs are disproportionate to the rest of your body
  • You have tried dieting and exercise to no avail
  • You are a non-smoker, or you’re willing to quit before and after surgery
  • You are realistic in your expectations for your results

What will my recovery entail?

For most patients, thigh lift recovery is quick and manageable, helped by the conservative approach our surgeons use. As with any surgery, expect some swelling, bruising, and tenderness at the site. This is normal and fades within 7-10 days.

You will wear a compression garment early in recovery to reduce swelling and protect your new shape. Our team provides pain medication and antibiotics after surgery, along with a detailed aftercare plan.

FAQ

Common Questions About Thigh Lift Surgery

How much does a thigh lift cost?

It depends on whether you are having an inner thigh lift, an outer thigh lift or a bilateral procedure, and on how much tissue is being removed. You get an exact itemized figure at your consultation, and financing through Affirm, Cherry and CareCredit is available.

What does a thigh lift involve?

A thigh lift is performed at our AAAHC-accredited facility under anesthesia and takes about one to two hours. Incisions are placed discreetly in the groin area, and the surgeon removes excess skin, fat and tissue to create a slimmer, firmer shape. It can contour the inner and outer thighs at once.

What is the difference between an inner and an outer thigh lift?

An inner thigh lift removes excess fat, skin and tissue from the inner thigh and tightens the skin there, with an incision reaching from the groin backward toward the buttocks. An outer thigh lift slims and reshapes the outer thighs, with the incision made within the groin area and extending toward the hips and lower back.

Am I a good candidate for a thigh lift?

A thigh lift may suit you if you are unhappy with the appearance of your thighs, are free from significant medical concerns, and are willing to follow your surgeon's instructions during recovery. Many patients eat well and exercise hard and are still unhappy with their thighs, which is exactly the situation the procedure was designed for.

Is a thigh lift performed after major weight loss?

Yes. A bilateral thigh lift is often performed for patients after massive weight loss, to excise large amounts of loose skin that diet and exercise cannot address. If that is your situation, our page on plastic surgery after weight loss covers how the procedures are usually sequenced.

Will there be a scar?

Yes. Removing skin from the thigh requires an incision, and it is placed in the groin area so that it sits where clothing and underwear cover it. Your surgeon will show you exactly where it will fall before you decide, because that is the real trade-off of the procedure.

Who do I call if something worries me after my thigh lift?

Every surgical patient leaves with Dr. Heller's personal cell phone number. If anything concerns you after your thigh lift, swelling, a dressing, a medication question, you call him and he answers it himself. Follow-up visits are booked before you leave, and our nurse practitioners handle your pre- and post-operative care in the office.
