Credentials at a Glance

Biography

Dr. Harry T. Haramis is a board-certified plastic surgeon with more than 30 years of experience in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. He holds dual board certification from both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery, which places him among a small group of surgeons. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

Education and Training

Dr. Haramis graduated summa cum laude in Zoology from Rutgers University, then earned his medical degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in 1987. He completed a five-year residency in general surgery at Saint Barnabas Medical Center (now Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center) in Livingston, NJ, followed by a two-year integrated plastic surgery fellowship at Wright State University/Kettering Medical Center in Dayton, OH. Seven years of post-medical school training built the technical precision and anatomical knowledge behind his approach to body and breast procedures.

Body and Breast Surgery Expertise

Dr. Haramis's clinical practice centers on the procedures that demand the highest level of plastic surgery training:

  • Breast augmentation, lift, and reduction
  • Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and mommy makeover
  • Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) using advanced fat transfer techniques
  • VASER ultrasound liposuction with and without fat transfer
  • Liposuction 360 and SmartLipo
  • Bariatric body contouring (arm lift, thigh lift, body lift)
  • Gynecomastia (male breast reduction)

His body contouring work centers on VASER ultrasound-assisted liposuction, which removes fat more precisely and leaves smoother results than traditional methods. For a Brazilian Butt Lift, he uses a multi-layer fat transfer technique to improve graft survival and build natural, proportionate contours.

Published Research

Dr. Haramis has contributed to the peer-reviewed medical literature, including:

  • "Cleft Palate and Congenital Lateral Alveolar Synechia Syndrome: Case Presentation and Literature Review", Annals of Plastic Surgery, Vol. 34, No. 4, April 1995
  • "Unilateral Breast Atrophy", Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Vol. 95, No. 5, April 1995, documenting the only known case of acquired unilateral breast atrophy after infectious mononucleosis, with reconstruction via tissue expansion and prosthetic augmentation

Hospital Privileges and Professional Standing

Dr. Haramis holds active surgical privileges at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, Clara Maass Medical Center, and JFK University Medical Center, all within the RWJBarnabas Health system. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS/The Aesthetic Society), and the New Jersey Society of Plastic Surgeons.

A Family Tradition of Medicine

Dr. Haramis comes from a family of physicians. Both his father and uncle practiced medicine, and he spent summers with them on hospital rounds and house calls. Those early years shaped his belief that good surgical results start with listening to what each patient wants to achieve.
