We all know that sun and time are some of the biggest causes of facial wrinkles, but a new study published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal shows that your sleeping position can cause wrinkles too!
According to one of the authors of the study, “Sleep wrinkles form in response to distortion created when the face is pressed against any sleep surface. They tend to worsen over time due to repetition combined with thinning of the skin and decreased elasticity as we age.”
The amount of time spent in sleeping positions, such as side sleeping and stomach sleeping, increase the likelihood of sleep wrinkles. But it isn’t easy to control which position you sleep in. Back sleeping is the best because it does not compress the face the way other positions do, but only about 30 percent of people sleep in this position.
To alleviate sleep wrinkles, you can try to sleep on your back, but you should definitely take care of your skin with sunscreen, good nutrition, and great skin care products.
