The Procedure
What Can I Expect From The Procedure?
Your breast lift with implants is performed in our accredited NYC surgery center under sedation or general anesthesia. We choose the surgical technique based on your degree of breast ptosis, the location of the nipples, your skin's elasticity, and the cup size you want.
Your plastic surgeon makes incisions in the agreed-upon locations and builds the breast pocket. Excess skin and tissue are removed, the implants are placed, and the wounds are closed with fine sutures. You are then moved to our recovery suites and monitored.
Technique
How Will the Implant Lift My Breast?
The implant recreates fullness and shape in the upper breast. If it is too large, it can make the breast lift incisions difficult to close, and those incisions are what create the greatest improvement. The breast lift uses one of three incision types, depending on the patient:
- Periareolar - Around the nipple, for minimal sagging.
- Circumvertical or Lollipop - Around the nipple with a vertical extension, for moderate sagging.
- Inverted T or Anchor Incision - Around the nipple with a vertical extension plus horizontal extension, for severe sagging.

What Are The Different Incision Options?
Periareolar
Best for patients with minimal breast ptosis. The incision encircles the bottom half of the nipple, where scarring is well concealed by the darker pigment of the areola.
Lollipop
The lollipop, or circumvertical, incision encircles the nipple and runs down the breast vertically. It suits moderate breast ptosis.
Anchor
The anchor, or inverted T, incision is for a severe degree of breast sagging. It encircles the nipple, runs down the breast vertically, and then runs horizontally along the inframammary fold.
Recovery
What Will My Recovery Entail?
After surgery a friend or family member escorts you home. You receive a detailed aftercare plan along with a compression garment, pain medications, antibiotics, muscle relaxants, and anti-nausea pills. Swelling, soreness, and bruising are normal.
For the first week, sleep with your head elevated. Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for at least 3-4 weeks. Most patients return to work within 7-10 days.
