Skin Rejuvenation with Fraxel® Laser

Fraxel® technology is as extraordinary as the results it delivers. Unlike other lasers on the market today, Fraxel® lasers accurately treat thousands of microscopic areas of skin, using laser beams that eliminate old, damaged skin cells. This process stimulates the body’s natural healing process, which jumpstarts collagen production as fresh, glowing skin is revealed.

For a free consultation to discuss the potential benefits of laser skin rejuvenation with Fraxel®, please call Allure Plastic Surgery at (646) 844-5683 today.

How Does Fraxel® Work?

The way your skin looks and feels is unique, and is a product of a combination of factors that include: your genetic make-up, lifestyle and experiences. Your physician can create a tailored treatment plan that will address your skin’s individual needs while improving its tone and texture. By design, Fraxel® lasers can target 5 to 50 percent of the treated skin’s surface, leaving intact skin behind to contribute to rapid healing of the treated areas. Because Fraxel® treatments are so precise, it’s safe and effective for sensitive and delicate skin areas such as the neck, décolletage, hands and face.

Fraxel® patients can expect results on two levels: immediate and progressive. Immediately following the initial stage of the healing process, the skin will appear softer and brighter as your skin tone begins to even out. Progressive results start to appear in subsequent (next 3-6) months as the skin’s deeper tissue layers continue to heal.

Before & After

Benefits of Fraxel®

Simply put, Fraxel® lasers promote natural rejuvenation of your skin that takes years off of your appearance by provoking the skin’s natural healing powers. Depending on your lifestyle and the condition of your skin, you can choose how you want to rejuvenate your appearance with Fraxel® treatment.

Aggressive treatments don’t require as many sessions but result in more pronounced post treatment side-effects such as social downtime. Less aggressive treatments achieve the same results with additional treatment sessions and milder side-effects. Some skin types and conditions respond best to additional, gentle treatments while others require a more aggressive approach.

Fraxel® lasers are specifically engineered to provide your physician with complete control so they can meet their patient’s unique and particular needs.

Life is too short to not look as good as you feel. Fraxel® treatment can help you achieve the skin and rejuvenation you desire but the first step is up to you.

Is dermabrasion effective for deep acne scars?

Dermabrasion is ideal for resolving superficial acne scarring. Deeper scars respond better to Fraxel® laser treatment or excision (removal via incision.) The Fraxel® laser improves the skin’s texture by jumpstarting your body’s own collagen production. Excising the scar removes the deep hole in the skin by replacing it with a nearly invisible flat line. Afterward, dermabrasion can be used to smooth the line.

How many treatments are suggested and how long do I wait in between them?

Everyone’s skin is unique, but clinical trials suggest that most people get maximum results in as few as 3 to 5 sessions. These treatments are spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, depending on how quickly the skin recovers.

Is Fraxel® laser treatment painful?

Topical anesthetics are applied prior to the procedure and cold air application is also used during the procedure to minimize discomfort at the treatment site. Following the treatment, the majority of patients report experiencing what feels like a minor sunburn. This feeling typically fades in 1 to 3 hours.

Are there any side effects after treatment? If so, how long will they last?

Some degree of redness and swelling will be present following the procedure. The intensity and duration depends directly on how aggressive your treatment was and healing characteristics of your skin type. Some more temporary side-effects could include minor itching, dry skin, peeling or flaking and a bronzed appearance. Your surgeon will give you specific instructions that will assist you in minimizing any side-effects.

What precautions should I take after treatment?

Apply SPF 30 or higher sunscreen and avoid direct exposure to sunlight during the healing process, which lasts for at least 3 months following your last treatment. We also suggest wearing a wide-brimmed hat if you plan on being outdoors during the day.

How long do the effects of Fraxel® treatment last?

The longevity of the improvement you achieve depends on your particular condition and how well you care for your skin. After your skin is restored, you should continue to consider the precautions outlined above. Especially if conditions such as melasma were treated, avoid direct exposure to the sun’s damaging rays. Your physician will give you excellent advice based on your skin type and individual needs.
